Introduction

When the City of Seattle wanted to build a new accessible restroom facility at Gas Work Park, it partnered with KEES, a manufacturer that specializes in producing high-quality HVAC air-side products, to supply a custom louver.

Gas Works Park is a public park built on the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company plant. The park offers a beautiful view of the city alongside a play area for families, access to ride trails, and open park space for recreation. The City of Seattle wanted to renovate the restroom facilities at the park to be accessible to all visitors. KEES contributed to the construction of the new “comfort station” with a louver to circulate fresh air.

Project Requirements

For the updated restroom facility, KEES was engaged to produce a 32” x 24” louver with chevron-shaped blades to provide air movement while maintaining privacy from both sides. Built out of 11-gauge steel and reinforced with all-welded construction, this louver was designed for durability. A ½” galvanized bird screen guards against unwanted visitors to the facilities while letting air pass through. For the finishing touch, the louver was painted in KEES flat black, allowing it to blend harmoniously with the park's surroundings.

Construction on the comfort station was completed in 2023 and is now open. The new single-occupancy bathrooms are ADA compliant, enhancing public access to Gas Works Park.

Why KEES

For air-side products built to last, look no further than KEES all-welded construction. Our all-welded grilles, grates, and louvers are stronger, sturdier, and more wear-resistant than those made with standard pressed construction.

KEES worked with the City of Seattle to produce an all-welded louver that will remain durable for years to come. The choice of flat black finish elevates this louver from a functional element to an artistic complement to the park’s industrial origins.

From materials to finishes, KEES offers a variety of options to customize our louvers. Choose from formed, fabricated, or extruded louvers produced at any airflow or dimensional requirement.
